Economic Development Grant Reports

Thank you for this update, Mayor Pro Tem Owen. In regards to the two Economic Development Administration (EDA) grant applications tied to the Community Center / Emergency Shelter concept / project: Is this being added as a workshop and/or action item in an upcoming CC meeting? Could you please clarify the dollar amount of the required set aside and eligible match funding (cash and/or approved alternatives) to enable submission of these two EDA applications? Thank you!

Councilor Van Ness, thank you for the questions.

Yes, I intend to place this on the March 5th agenda as a workshop item. Ms. McCoy is scheduled to provide a detailed presentation at the second meeting in March, including specific match requirements and eligible funding structures for the two EDA applications.

Historically, Council had allocated $100,000 toward this concept, though that amount was not included in the current fiscal year budget. Ms. McCoy has identified other grant programs that, if awarded, could serve as eligible matching funds. In addition, EDAC, now transitioning to the EDC, is actively workshopping potential matching strategies, including structured fundraising campaigns and partnership models.

Before any submission occurs, Council will need to determine the comfort level with committing eligible match (cash and/or approved alternatives), and that discussion will be part of the March workshop.

Appreciate the thoughtful engagement on this, the timing matters if we want to remain competitive for federal funding.
