Results from the recent Facebook social media poll are below.

While these are not scientific polls, they are a fairly good indication of what some of the residents of Lago Vista wish to be placed, in the new charter.

⁃ Regarding term length:

⁃ Three years - 8 votes.
⁃ Two years - 39 votes.

Some comments from participants:

“I think there is some merit to three year terms as there is a serious learning curve. Also, as the Mayor is primarily a cerimonial position, there should be no difference between any council members and the Mayor. As for term limits, I believe 6 years is long enough no matter whether it is two or three year terms.”

“I am in favor of 2-year term limits. This is local politics, you don't need much money to run. Get out and meet people rather than spend thousands on flyers and signs that often annoy people anyway. Don't pay companies for phone numbers to text people, unsolicited. It's your local community where you live. Meet people and earn votes that way. 2 years also seems more doable for folks considering running. 3 years is a longer commitment at one time and could dissuade folks from running. It would also dissuade running from re-election because then you're talking 6 years rather than 4.”

“I can see benefits to both, but a 3yr term could scare off some applicants. While a 3yr term could actually see the benefits of that CC member. They come in after the budget has been approved for the next year”

“Its at 2 for all right now and it seems perfect.( I think the city committees should be 1 year term)

Why mess with it. Look at voter turn out up here. Please don't rock the boat.thanks”

“2 year is better for removal of a harmful member, plus its accustomed to.”

⁃ The general concept of having term limits included in the charter:

⁃ Yes - 72 votes.
⁃ No - 8 votes.

Some comments from participants:

“They have to get voted back in. If they are spectacular—then awesome, keep them in if they are willing. If they are horrible, vote them out. IT IS AN UNPAID, VOLUNTEER POSITION.”

“No term limits. it's an unpaid position, if you don't like what they are doing vote them out or run yourself. What should change is stop having separate places, if there are 3 spots open then voters should vote for 3 and then the top 3 votes fill the spots.”

⁃ The general concept of creating independent board of ethics:

⁃ Yes - 39 votes.
⁃ No - 10 votes.

Some comments from participants:

“Completely against the creation of this. In the future this can cause massive partisan issues. The state of Texas already (h)as a Texas Ethics & Compliance commission that is authorized to investigate. The Texas Rangers also have a Public Integrity Unit and a public Corruption unit tasted with crimes committed by public Corruption.”
