I want to inform you of an ordinance that will be presented for consideration at our February 6th meeting regarding employee vacancy reporting requirements.

The proposed ordinance aims to establish a structured quarterly reporting system for city staffing vacancies and recruitment efforts. This initiative supports our oversight responsibilities while promoting transparency in city operations.

Key Elements of the Proposed Ordinance:

  1. Quarterly Reporting Schedule
    • Initial report presentation: February 20th, 2025
    • Subsequent reports: First council meeting of each quarter
    • Reports to be included in council packets and posted on city website
  2. Comprehensive Department Coverage The reports will track vacancies across all city departments, including but not limited to:
    • Executive positions (City Manager, City Attorney)
    • Public Safety
    • Administrative Services
    • Development and Planning
    • Parks and Recreation
    • Information Technology
    • Public Works and Engineering
  3. Detailed Vacancy Information For each position, the report will include:
    • Position details and department
    • Vacancy duration
    • Recruitment status and timeline
    • Hiring priorities and strategies
    • Any challenges in filling positions
The ordinance is designed to help Council better understand our staffing challenges, support informed decision-making, and ensure public transparency in our hiring processes.
