Commission and Committee Appointments - Avoiding Overlap
Fellow committee members, I'm cross posting this council thread here for committee discussion and consideration of charter implications. During the first charter review, we discussed prohibiting individuals from serving on multiple quasi-judicial commissions, or at a minimum, restricting membership on BOA and any other quasi-judicial commissions. Ultimately the consensus was that this would be a good addition to the charter, but given other priorities, it did not warrant a stand alone ballot proposition and the committee left appointment requirements to the discretion of the council. With the complete re-write, we now have an opportunity to revisit this issue and make a recommendation on commission appointment to multiple commissions in the charter.
In addition, I'd floated the idea at the time that any prior city council member, who did not resign from council or who was not involuntarily removed by council action, may receive an automatic appointment to BOA upon request during open recruiting. I will renew this idea when we are discussing the charter article on committees, boards and commissions.
